BeneMeat welcomed a government, business and academic delegation from the United Arab Emirates to its Prague facilities. Facilitated by the Czech Ministry of Agriculture, the visit was led by Her Excellency Dr. Maria Hanif AlQassim, Assistant Undersecretary for Policies and Economic Studies Sector at the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism, and provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on cultivated meat technology, its potential applications in the region and its contribution to future food security.
The discussions focused on several key aspects of bringing cultivated meat technology closer to commercial adoption: consumer acceptance in the UAE and wider region, opportunities for integration into existing food manufacturing processes, and the importance of food safety and regulatory frameworks in enabling responsible industrial development. BeneMeat shared insights from its experience in developing and scaling cultivated meat technology, while representatives from government, industry and academia contributed perspectives on regional market needs, practical implementation and opportunities for future cooperation.
“What made this visit particularly valuable was the open exchange of perspectives between government, industry and academia. We discussed how emerging food technologies could contribute to the UAE’s long-term food security ambitions, and what it takes to bring innovation into practical applications. These are exactly the conversations needed to move the industry forward,” said Jan Luprich, Strategic Partnerships Lead at BeneMeat.
The visit highlighted the importance of dialogue between technology developers, manufacturers, researchers and public authorities in exploring new approaches to food production, supporting innovation and strengthening long-term food security.
H.E. Dr. Maria Hanif AlQassim stated: “The UAE is committed to developing an integrated and sustainable food ecosystem by fostering innovation, adopting advanced technologies and strengthening cooperation between government, industry and academia, as well as with our international partners, including the Czech Republic. Our visit to BeneMeat offered valuable insights into emerging food production technologies and international best practices that can support our ongoing efforts to develop the UAE Food Cluster. We are keen to leverage global expertise and explore opportunities for knowledge exchange and collaboration that will enhance the competitiveness of the UAE’s food sector, strengthen local production capabilities and contribute to the country’s long-term food security objectives.”
Cultivated meat
Cultivated meat, also known as cultured meat or cell-based meat, is real animal meat produced by directly growing animal cells in a controlled environment instead of raising and slaughtering animals. The process begins with a small sample of animal cells, which are nourished with essential nutrients and guided to form muscle, fat, and connective tissue, replicating natural biological growth. The result is meat that is biologically identical to conventional meat but can be produced more sustainably, with lower environmental impact and improved animal welfare. A term Cultivated meat refers to meat (including muscle cells, fat cells, connective tissue, blood, and other components) produced by cultivating animal cells, not by slaughtering a live animal.
