Calbee, Inc. announces a major renewal of its popular Kappa Ebisen series with the launch of Kappa Ebisen Sakura Shrimp, available for a limited time starting March 9, 2026. The seasonal release marks the first major texture update in five years and features 100% sakura shrimp kneaded whole into the dough.
Originally inspired by river shrimp tempura enjoyed by founder Takashi Matsuo, Kappa Ebisen has been a long-selling snack since 1964. Building on its legacy, the renewed Sakura Shrimp variety enhances both formulation and manufacturing processes to create a lighter, melt-in-your-mouth texture that highlights the gentle aroma and natural sweetness of shrimp.
Made using whole sakura shrimp, the product delivers rich umami and a distinctive spring flavor. The cherry blossom-colored dough and pale pink packaging reflect the seasonal theme, making it ideal for spring occasions such as cherry blossom viewing and outdoor gatherings.
This release is also the first Kappa Ebisen product manufactured at the Setouchi Hiroshima Factory, completed in January 2025. The product will be available at convenience stores nationwide from March 9, 2026, and at other retail outlets from March 23, 2026, while supplies last.
