White tea has long occupied a rarefied place in the tea world, valued not for boldness but for its scarcity, fleeting harvest and the skill required to preserve its purity. In early July, Birchall Tea, one of the nation’s favourite and most respected family-run tea producers, introduces a new limited edition White Tea & Raspberry, a quietly luxurious expression of one of the world’s most elusive teas.
Drawing on over a century of expertise and an unrivalled reputation for sourcing exceptional leaves, Birchall has selected only the youngest, unopened white tea buds from China’s mist-draped tea gardens. Harvested during a narrow window and handled entirely by hand, these tender buds capture the tea at its most refined.
Often referred to as ‘silver tips’ white tea, due to their distinctive silvery hue, these prized buds represent true white tea at its purest, unlike many white teas on the market which are in fact green tea in disguise. They are then carefully paired with real raspberry pieces, chosen to enhance the tea’s natural character rather than overshadow it.
In the cup, the infusion is pale gold and luminous, opening with soft floral notes before giving way to a restrained, naturally sweet fruit finish. Light, refreshing and naturally low in caffeine, it’s a tea designed for moments of calm, an elegant afternoon ritual or a gentle close to the day.
Brewed with care at 80°C for two minutes, it reveals the hallmarks Birchall is known for: balance, precision and a deep respect for provenance.
As tea lovers increasingly seek out rare, origin-led blends from producers they trust, this release feels like a natural evolution, a tea that reflects Birchall’s heritage while offering something quietly new.
Birchall’s White Tea & Raspberry will retail at £6.90 for 15 prism teabags
